Dentist Near Colonial Heights, VA

Southside Dental Cares is about three miles from Colonial Heights — straight down US-301 across the Appomattox River, at 2731 South Crater Road in Petersburg. For most of Colonial Heights that is a shorter trip than driving north into Chesterfield, and we can usually see urgent cases the same day. Call (804) 732-8557.

Colonial Heights sits directly across the river from us. The city line and the Appomattox are the only things between your side of the bridge and our chair, which is why so much of the practical detail below is about the drive rather than the dentistry.

Getting here from Colonial Heights

The simplest route is the one you already know: the Boulevard becomes US-1/301 heading south, crosses the Appomattox, and continues through Petersburg as Crater Road. We are on the southern stretch of Crater Road, on the right if you are heading south, with parking directly outside — no meters, no garage, no walk.

Coming from the eastern side of the city, taking I-95 south to the Wagner Road or Washington Street exits and cutting across to Crater Road avoids the lights along the Boulevard entirely. In practice the two routes take about the same time unless the Boulevard is backed up near Southpark.

What Colonial Heights patients usually come in for

Nothing about a city line changes what teeth need, but a practice a few minutes away does change what is realistic:

  • Six-monthly check-ups and cleanings that are easy to keep because the trip is short — see cavity prevention.
  • Same-day emergencies. A cracked tooth on a Tuesday morning does not need to become a week of painkillers. Our emergency dentistry page explains what to do first.
  • Children’s appointments scheduled around school hours, when the drive back is ten minutes rather than forty — see pediatric dentistry.
  • Longer treatment such as implants, root canal treatment or veneers, where several visits are needed and distance genuinely matters.

Hours that fit a working week

We are open Monday to Thursday 8am to 5pm and Friday mornings 8am to 1pm. For anyone commuting north to Richmond, the first appointment of the day is usually the easiest to keep — you are in and out before the I-95 traffic builds.

New here?

Bring your insurance card, a list of any medicines you take, and the name of your previous dentist if you would like your records transferred. We will check your benefits before treatment and put any larger plan in writing, with the insurance estimate alongside it. If you are between dentists and just want an opinion on something, that is a perfectly reasonable first visit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How far is your office from Colonial Heights?
A: About three miles. Follow US-1/301 south across the Appomattox River and continue as it becomes Crater Road — we are at 2731 South Crater Road with parking directly outside. For most of Colonial Heights it is a shorter drive than heading north into Chesterfield.

Q: Can I be seen the same day if I have a dental emergency?
A: We keep room in the schedule for urgent cases and will fit you in the same day where we can. Call (804) 732-8557 as early as you can. If you have facial swelling with fever or difficulty breathing or swallowing, go to an emergency room rather than waiting for a dental appointment.

Q: Do you take my insurance?
A: We work with most major dental plans and will check your specific benefits before treatment begins, then give you the out-of-pocket figure in writing. Call the office with your plan details and we will confirm exactly what is covered before you commit to anything.

Q: Can the whole family be seen on the same visit?
A: Yes — back-to-back family appointments are usually the most practical way to do it, and we will arrange them in one block so you make a single trip. Say so when booking and we will schedule accordingly.
